Yesterday we left Spencer in charge of the house while Melissa and I drove to our neighbors house to pick up a futon. We were gone less than 10 minutes. When I left I told Spencer I was going to ask Jessi and Kristian if he was a good baby sitter and I told Jessi and Kristian that I was going to ask Spencer if they were good for him. Upon our return the following conversation ensued.
Me: "Spencer, how were the kids?"
Spencer: "Great"
Me: "Jessi, was Spencer a good babysitter?"
Jessi: "He was awesome dad."
At this time Kristian is silently sobbing on the couch.
Me: "Nader, why are you crying?"
Kristian: "I don't want the tornado to come"
Me in a little more serious voice: "Spencer, what's he talking about?"
Spencer: "We couldn't get the movie working so I taught Jessi and Kristian that if a tornado comes while you and mom are gone we need to get in the crawl space so it doesn't swoosh us away."
If any of you are looking for a babysitter Spencer is charging a premium for his emergency education services.
On to the NBA. David Stern had this to say concerning coaches griping about the officiating and I say amen. Maybe I should have put this first so you had to read it before the Spencer story.
"I wish I had it to do all over again, and starting 20 years ago, I'd be suspending Phil and Pat Riley for all the games they play in the media, because you guys know that our referees go out there and they knock themselves out and do the best job they can. We have coaches who will do whatever it takes to try to work them publicly," Stern said. "What that does is erode fan confidence, and then we get some of the situations that we have. So, our coaches should be quiet because this is a good business that makes them good livings and supports a lot of families, and if they don't like, they should go get a job someplace else."

Mini Quilt Number Three
So this week I learned how to make a Dresden Plate block. It was so much fun! I am always happy when I put something together that looks like it was super hard and turns out to be not all that tuff. The tutorial I followed was amazing and really made this quite the fun project to complete. I love how this block turned out. Who knows, maybe I will be making an entire Dresden Plate quilt in the future.

What I Want
I tend to spend a lot of time thinking about the future. I'm not sure how much normal people think about the future, but I tend to think that I am on the far end of that bell curve. I'm not sure if I'm hardwired to do so or if I have adapted my joy of looking ahead, but I do enjoy it. The future is full of roses (or at least a truck with a rose bush in the bed) and I like to think about where I'll be in 5, 10, or 20 years so I can start making plans.
At times I have longed for the tomorrows of my life because today felt so hard. I still get that way from time to time, but the majority of the time now I just enjoy thinking about tomorrow because it keeps changing and I like change. I'm a little nervous to actually finish residency and move next year, not because it's new and different, rather, that move represents the last big move/change in our lives. I'm not entirely sure how I'll handle that. I keep teasing Melissa that I may have to go to law school in a few years just so we can continue our nomadic life. It should be noted that she does not like that line of thought one bit.
Back to the future (I love that trilogy by the way). There are some things that I want out of my future. Fifteen years ago I wanted to have a Ferrari in my future. Ten years ago I could see myself living in a giant house up on the hill with an indoor gym outback and a pool in the basement. Five years ago I wanted a cabin up in the mountains. I still want the cabin. I'm not so enamored with the other things anymore. At this point I want to be able to say no to the Ferrari (or the like) when I have the means to purchase such a thing. If that sounds arrogant you should probably get to know me better and avoid any rash judgements until you do so. If you do know me really well and it still sounds arrogant I should probably find a better way to phrase that in the future. I find that a lot of things sound arrogant on blogs that are not meant to be so.
So what do I want now? I want to write a book. I don't know what it will be about, but I enjoy writing so someday I'm going to write a book. When I get finished maybe I'll tack it to the corkboard by the refrigerator and my grandkids will peruse it. Maybe I'll keep writing stupid meaningless posts here for the next 10 years and count that. I don't have any delusion of grandeur. This isn't an armchair quarterback kind of stuff it's just something I want to do.
I want to learn to play the piano. Someday I want to play a John Schmidt piece. If I'm going to have a baby grand in my living room I have to be able to justify it and Melissa can't even read music (sorry Dear) so I can't very well tell people it was her decision to buy that monstrosity.
I want to do a triathlon. Considering the fact that I swim like a rock I may satisfy this want by doing many triathlons as a member of a team with Melissa. She can swim and I will do the other stuff.
I want to serve an LDS mission with my wife, preferrably in Brazil.
I want to be liked. It's very chic to say that you don't care what anybody thinks. I care. I don't care what everybody thinks, but there are a lot of people who I respect and I want those people to like me. I do care what those people think of my decisions.
Right now what I really want is for the lady in 23 to deliver her baby so that maybe I can get some sleep tonight.
Addendum: she delivered and I remembered what else I want. I want Dreamworks to make more movies like How to Train Your Dragon. We saw it on Saturday and it was awesome. I have never enjoyed a cartoon so much. Melissa, of course, cried and the kids had a blast. Thank you Dreamworks.

Slightly Late Spider Web
So it took me a little longer to get this week's mini quilt done. I have never made a spider web block but it was fun to try a new technique. Will I make another one? Not sure at this point, maybe. However, I am very happy with the way it turned out. I think the set will just be adorable! So without further ado, her is mini quilt number 2 of 4.

Whose blog is this anyway?
This is an outrage! I got bumped for a quilt? This blog is about the Corry family and March Madness is an integral part of this family. Just the other night Kristian hopped up on the bed to watch the final four with me. After 20 seconds he asked: "Which one's Noder Dame, Dad?" I don't see him saddling up next the the sewing machine.
Corrys love sports. Watching sports leads to playing sports which teaches life lessons. These things are important.
Unfortunately this blog seems to have been taken over by the etsyesque crowd and there's nothing I can do about except to kick against the pricks. The readers have spoken and I am as a lame duck George W. Bush in a liberal America. The only difference is I don't have a two term limit. In that aspect I'm somewhat more like the Rush Limbaugh to your etsy views.
It's on now!
If you are reading this for the first time (this is certainly worthy of multiple visits) you should check out the next post. Melissa does make some nice quilts and she could certaily have more expensive hobbies, but you didn't hear it from me.
